Cherry Blossoms

2023/03/25

The cherry blossoms have begun to appear near the water in and around Vancouver. Cherry Blossoms: A Textile Translation will open on April 6th for the month of April at the Silk Purse Arts Centre in West Vancouver. It is always an excellent exhibit of art inspired by the cherry blossoms. It is co-produced by The Vancouver Guild of Fibre Arts and FibreEssence.

Quilt Canada Vancouver 2022

2022/10/25

Quilt Canada Vancouver has come and gone and we had a great time. The show was under-the-sails so the lighting was quite good. Friends came together or met up to view the various shows, hunt through the merchant mall, or have a bite to eat.

Something new this year was a show featuring a couple quilts from many of the local guilds. The Guild Gathering group organized this and it was a success. A few of the quilts:

A few of my favourite quilts from the National Juried Show were:

There were many quilts in CQA‘s Challenges. These photos are from the Challenges for Youth, Members, and the one set by Trend Tex. The Trend Tex Challenge ends in a silent auction of the pieces, and is a fundraiser for CQA.

Quilt Canada is such an asset for the quilting community in Canada. It is an opportunity to have our quilts from all over the country on display. Quilters can see what others are doing, get ideas, meet other quilters, and participate in the camaraderie of our community.

Quilt Canada Vancouver is coming

2022/05/28

June 16-18 – Quilt Canada will be at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

My Trend Tex entry on the theme of Refresh. I thought of refreshing a webpage and this quilt was the result. My son looked at it and said, “Live, stitch, repeat!”. Exactly.

The big CQA quilt show is in Vancouver this year. It will be great with shows from many organizations. Check it out on the CQA website under the Events tab and become Reconnected.

Cherry Blossom Festival 2022

2022/05/24

Back again for its 13th exhibit at the Silk Purse. It is such a beautiful time of the year.

Ultimate UFO

2022/05/24

This runner was started many years ago. It is from one of the first patterns I bought. I tried it and did not really like it but put it together without batting to keep it thin. That did not work.

It is finally finished with new batting and the quilting makes it acceptable.

September 2021

2021/09/27

Beginning of the school year, Covid continues to affect our lives, and Fall is here. For the West Coast that means more rain for which we are happy as the greens brighten and the forest fires are put out.

The improv quilt is finished, a mug mat and toy bag were made, and now there are Halloween bibs and bags to make.

My guild’s Grow-a-Quilt has ended and my rows are done but I ran out of fabric for the final border. I am hoping the shop still has some of the off white Grunge from the same bolt. Lesson learned – have a larger piece of fabric for background. I think I achieved balance without symmetry.

Now – What to do about the back??

Happy Quilting!

My Patchwork Heart

2021/07/21

The theme of the Trend Tex Challenge this year is Friendship and the main colours of the fat quarters are red, black, blue, and white. My shows Friendship as a heart and how our friends are all different. They can be Traditional, Modern, and Improv. The quilting is like a net that holds us all together.

You will be able to see all the Trend Tex entries when they are auctioned at Bidding Owl – September 23-26, 2021. Register for the auction on the CQA website here.

View all the entries here.

This is a fundraiser for the Canadian Quilters Association / Association Canadienne de la Courtepointe.

Echo Curves Quilting

2021/07/21

Lately ( in November 2020) I have been drawing a curve on a piece then echoing it at approximately my walking foot spacing.
